In the Citizens United decision, Justice Kennedy wrote that “independent expenditures (like to politicians), including those made by corporations, do not give rise to corruption or the appearance of corruption. (Wrong.) The fact that (corporations) may have influence over elected officials does not mean that these officials are corrupt.” ( Wrong again.) This new legal order reclassifies influence-seeking as normal and desirable political behavior. The (Citizens United) model flows from a belief that everyone in politics is already on the take.
